Joe Biden steps up pressure on Israel over E Jerusalem

US Vice-President Joe Biden has again condemned Israel over a controversial building project, saying its approval undermined trust in the peace process.

Mr Biden was speaking after meeting the Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, in the West Bank.

Mr Abbas also said the approval of another 1,600 homes in occupied East Jerusalem threatened the peace process and demanded the plans be scrapped.

Israel has insisted the move had nothing to do with Mr Biden's visit.

'Lasting peace'

Israel and the Palestinians have agreed to otherwise, "said closely held" in the effort to start peace process which has been stagnant for 17 months.

But the announcement cast a shadow over talks with Israel, to pay Palestinian Authority said Israel believes that the approval to see the U.S. efforts to negotiate failed before even starting.
Mr. Biden told press conference with Mr Abbas not to make severe budget situation and the decision of peace.

He said it is "permanently sustainable and just peace" in all areas, including Syria and Lebanon.

Mr. Abbas has refused to resume direct negotiations with the government of Israel to refuse to complete abandonment of the expansion of settlement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
